Belarus-EU cooperation in nature protection, energy saving commended

VITEBSK, 8 December (BelTA) – Belarus-EU cooperation in nature protection and energy saving have been fruitful so far, Head of the European Union Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin told the media in Vitebsk on 8 December.

On 8 December Andrea Wiktorin attended the presentation of the results of the energy-efficient upgrading project implemented at an educational institution in Vitebsk. It was a pilot project to enhance the energy efficiency of a facility under the Vitebsk Shmyrev State Vocational College of Mechanical Engineering with a complete overhaul and upgrading of the educational and production building.

“Energy saving, green economy and efforts against climate change are among the top priorities for the EU,” stressed Andrea Wiktorin. She also noted that the European Union is the biggest donor of Belarus. “We cooperate with other donors such as the United Nations Development Programme that implemented the project. We call upon people to alter their household attitude and habits, thus, changing the situation in general to the better. Today we have seen a very good example of what can be done to save energy. I am impressed with what I saw in the college,” said the Head of the European Union Delegation to Belarus.

According to Andrea Wiktorin, the EU has been actively and fruitfully cooperating with Belarus in nature protection, energy efficiency and energy saving. In her words, Belarus is a good partner, and thanks to this a lot of different projects can be implemented. This week Belarus was visited by a delegation from Brussels that held meetings in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
