Belarus calls to strengthen OSCE economic and environmental dimensions

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) -  Belarus advocates strengthening the OSCE economic and environmental dimensions in order to enhance security in the region, Chairman of the Standing Commission for International Affairs of the House of Representatives Valery Voronetsky said at a meeting of the OSCE PA General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Belarus is attending the 28th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Luxembourg. “When addressing the meeting of the OSCE PA General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment  Valery Voronetsky said that Belarus attaches key importance to the strengthening of the OSCE economic and environmental dimensions in order to increase the level of regional security and stability,” the press service noted.

In this connection, Valery Voronetsky reminded the MPs of the conference of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Silk Road Support Group “Belt and Road: strengthening cooperation for sustainable development and prosperity” held in Minsk in April 2019. It adopted the Minsk Declaration which calls to promote cross-border e-commerce, logistics and transport corridors, eliminate barriers and establish effective links between countries and integration associations.

Moreover, the Belarusian MP highlighted the achievements of Belarus in the IT industry. “In view of the fact that digital technologies are a powerful driver of economic growth, Valery Voronetsky urged to study the multidimensional impact of digitalisation on the economic and environmental security, technological, managerial and public processes,” the press service noted.

The MP thanked his colleagues for the support of Belarus-sponsored draft resolution “Strategic Foresight for Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development”. As it was reported it will make part of the Luxembourg Declaration of the 28th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
