MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Rethinking the spirit and essence of the Helsinki Process to match the new reality can become the main political project of uniting nature for the entire continent. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the relevant statement at the 25^th session of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan, the ministry’s press service told BelTA.

The minister of foreign affairs said: “Constructive political will and the observance of international law remain crucial to clearing the current tensions. It is what the Belarus president talked about during the latest session of the Munich Security Conference Core Group in Minsk in October as he mentioned our idea to launch a new Helsinki Process. We don’t suggest reviewing the current European security architecture. Everything that has been accomplished should stay in place and, if necessary, adapted in light of new challenges, the existing trend for escalating tensions, and the new arms race.”

Vladimir Makei pointed out that the detection and accommodation of interests and strategic vulnerabilities instead of redistribution of influence remain a number one item on the agenda. “It is vital to look for new ways to work out basic components of this process even if we have to start with experts and get all the key interested parties involved later on,” said the official. “Rethinking the spirit and essence of the Helsinki Process to match the new reality can become the main political project of uniting nature for the entire continent.”
