MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian president’s initiative to develop a counter-terrorism front involving international organizations is very timely and should be supported, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told journalists on 4 September, BelTA has learned.
On 3 September, the Belarusian head of state took part in the international counter-terrorism conference in Minsk where he called for developing a strong-knit counter-terrorism front by the UN, the OSCE, the EU, the CSTO, the CIS, the SCO and other international organizations. “Aleksandr Lukashenko’s initiative is very timely. I wish it was supported, and those who combat terrorism teamed up. Only together we can defeat international terrorism,” Sergei Lebedev stressed.
“This is a good proposal, it is consistent with our wishes and aims. The CIS countries have already called for this, because we advocate pooling efforts to fight international terrorism,” he added.
The necessity to form such a union, including at the level of law enforcement agencies and special services, is already understood. According to Sergei Lebedev, the Belarusian president’s initiative was discussed at the conference and at meetings on the sidelines of the event.
