GOMEL, 13 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Australia should search for areas of common interest in order to expand bilateral cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to Russia with concurrent accreditation to Belarus Peter Tesch said at the meeting with Chairman of the Gomel Council of Deputies Ivan Borodinchik on 13 October, BelTA has learned.
According to the diplomat, during his diplomatic mission Peter Tesch would like to considerably intensify the trade, economic and cultural ties between the two countries. The diplomat named his visit a study one and added that he would like to learn more about Belarus, see the country’s nature, cities and people. That is why it is a car trip.
The wish to visit Gomel and get familiar with the region came to Peter Tesch after he attended the Days of Gomel Oblast in Moscow in late September. The diplomat said that he learnt a lot of interesting things from the Gomel Oblast Governor’s speech and was impressed with the variety of products on display.
According to the Ambassador, Australia and Belarus have cooperation prospects in such areas as mechanical engineering, including the agricultural one, the agro-industrial complex in general, culture, and the organization of sport events. The diplomat stressed that the main thing is to find common areas of interest, including with Gomel Oblast.
Peter Tesch made an evening walk around Gomel and visited the Palace of the Rumyantsevs and Paskeviches.
