MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – Despite the ongoing presidential election and the forthcoming parliamentary in Ukraine, Belarus cannot put on hold its interregional and bilateral contacts with Ukraine, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Ukraine Igor Sokol said in an interview with BelTA.
The ambassador noted that a presidential election is certainly an important event in a political life of any country. Ukraine is no exception. “During the election campaign, various political groups voice criticism of the current government and at the same time new ideas for the country’s development. We are carefully analyzing all the information available to us, first all of, in the context of our national interests and effective Belarus-Ukraine agreements. I would like to note that we see the most amicable attitude to us on the part of various politicians. This makes us optimistic about the prospects of bilateral cooperation,” Igor Sokol said.
He recalled that in 2017 and 2018 the presidents of Belarus and Ukraine set clear tasks related to the promotion of the bilateral relations. “Therefore, regular contacts are maintained by the governments, the foreign ministries and other government agencies and organizations. Election processes in a country of stay should not have any impact on it. We believe that trade and economic agreements reached at the highest level are not to be revised,” the diplomat said.
