MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – The activity of Belarusian diplomats in the UN is vivid, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov told the media, BelTA has learned.
“I can say that the activity of Belarusian diplomats in the UN is noticeable. We are talking here not just about counterterrorism but also about the main discussions taking place in the United Nations. During the High-Level Meetings of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei laid out a very active position on the support of the UN system and international institutions. He was in New York and we met there. Belarus takes part in all major discussions and activities of the organization,” said Vladimir Voronkov.
Speaking about the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, he said that they discussed the development of the UN system and also counterterrorism issues. “Terrorism is a global threat. The answer to it must be global as well. Belarus supports the activities of my agency. We receive a lot of advice and recommendations from the participating states. We work very closely on counterterrorism issues. Belarus is clearly heard among all the voices,” the UN Under-Secretary-General said.
Vladimir Voronkov noted that there have recently been significant changes in the international arena and that globalization processes have taken a slightly different direction. “Globalization itself and the international organizations, however, still remain a very important element of world stability and order,” he said.
