MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - Belarus has been achieving the sustainable development goals in constructive cooperation with the organizations of the United Nations system, Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich said when speaking at the Regional Forum for Sustainable Development of the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), BelTA learned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
Yuri Ambrazevich said that the national sustainable development program up to 2030 adopted in Belarus in 2015 conceptually coincides with the United Nations sustainable development agenda. Therefore, Belarus has a good basis for achieving the sustainable development goals at the national level. In this regard, it is important to work constructively with the UN organizations.
Belarus’ Permanent Representative also called for the revival of the socio-economic dimension in the activities of European regional organizations, including UNECE, as a key element of the regional approach to achieving the sustainable development goals. The Belarusian diplomat also suggested using the UNECE as a platform to discuss ways of enhancing interaction between European integration organizations and associations, which would be a real contribution to the sustainable development of the whole European region.
The UNECE Regional Forum for Sustainable Development was held in Geneva on 10 May. The results of the forum will be voiced at a higher-level meeting on sustainable development to be held in New York in July.
