Austria believes suspension of EU sanctions against Belarus will be followed by other steps

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - Second President of the Austrian National Council Karlheinz Kopf believes that other steps will follow after the suspension of EU sanctions against Belarus. He made the statement at the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on 13 October, BelTA has learned.

“There are no random coincidences. I think that our meeting is not a random coincidence but a good combination of circumstances,” Karlheinz Kopf said.

Austria believes suspension of EU sanctions against Belarus will be followed by other steps“You celebrated a convincing victory at the presidential election on Sunday. Yesterday the European Union made the first step towards the abolition of sanctions. I am convinced that other steps will follow, and a new page will be definitely opened in our relations, a new era will begin,” Karlheinz Kopf noted.

He praised the fact that Austria has traditionally played an important role in building contacts between Belarus and the EU, in the resolution of tension. “In this context, we are glad that we have made a certain contribution,” the Austrian official said.
