Armenia president: Belarus has image of stability, predictability

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Belarus has an image of stability and predictability in the world, Armenia President Armen Sarkissian said during a meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about the forthcoming Munich Security Conference Core Group meeting in Minsk, Armen Sarkissian noted that the Belarusian capital has been chosen to host the event for a reason. “Your country is unique today. The image of Belarus today is an image of stability and predictability. These qualities are rare in the new world we are living in. Not only regions but the world in general has become unpredictable, unstable,” the president said.

In his words, countries which have these two qualities: stability and predictability are valued in today’s world. “I value this highly. So do many friends of Belarus and the international community,” Armen Sarkissian said.

He also thanked Alexander Lukashenko for support and friendly attitude towards Armenia during the April events in Yerevan that led to a change in power. “As president and as a man I will never forget your attention. Your calls were not just diplomatic or political. They were calls from a friend who took interest, who was concerned and who was rejoicing at the same time. It was a great support for me during those days when we were going through big changes in the country,” the head of state said.

The president said that the change of power in Armenia was relatively calm: without excesses and human victims. “Still it was not an easy time. I really appreciate your support and I want you to know about it,” added Armen Sarkissian.
