MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) - Europe pins high hopes on Minsk agreements, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa, President of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences (CCEE) told the media on 28 September, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about Minsk as a venue for negotiations, the cardinal noted: “Europe pays close attention to Minsk agreements and pins high hopes on them. We want these agreements to be put into action so that our hopes come true,” Angelo Bagnasco said.
Speaking at the CCEE plenary assembly, the cardinal expressed gratitude for the effort to arrange this large-scale meeting in Minsk. “We are happy to be here, in Belarus, at the invitation of Archbishop Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz whom I thank on behalf of all our brothers,” Angelo Bagnasco noted.
He drew attention to the fact the CCEE’s top priority is mutual understanding of different religions in Europe. “We need to focus not only on our common troubles but also on our common hopes and think about how we can address present-day challenges as a church,” the cardinal added.
