Andreichenko: Belarusian people stand in solidarity with those who oppose fascism

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - The Belarusian people stand in solidarity with those who oppose fascism and its ideology, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko told BelTA on 11 May.

“On the morning of 10 May, a tractor raked up the flowers laid at the monument to the Liberators in Riga on Victory Day. The descendants of the Latvian Nazis, who proclaimed 9 May as the day of remembrance for victims of the war in Ukraine, decided to erase all mention of the Soviet people's heroic deeds from history. On 11 May the citizens of Riga brought flowers to the monument and organized ‘people's patrol’ to protect the memory. This vivid example shows that even in the pro-fascist European countries there are healthy forces opposing Nazism, ready to defend their own ideals and preserve the true values. Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Ukrainians and Poles are mostly peace-loving, kind and decent people. They are hostages of their governments, carrying out someone else's will, protecting the interests of behind-the-scenes puppeteers who care about nothing but their own gain,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

The speaker emphasized that the war on monuments, the revival of fascist ideology, the destruction of cultural heritage, total restrictions, prohibitions and sanctions are the tools that the Western world uses today to maintain its own dominance.

“Attempts to stifle dissent, to rewrite history generate a wave of protest and indignation, forcing people to rise up to defend it. Thousands of Riga residents demonstrated their stance by re-laying flowers at the monument to the Liberators. The Belarusian people, who lost every third person in the Great Patriotic War, stand in solidarity with those who oppose fascism and its ideology. The words of Julius Fucik are relevant again today: “People, be Vigilant! Stop Fascism!” Vladimir Andreichenko added.
