MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) - President Aleksandr Lukashenko's visit to Austria will open a new page in the bilateral relations, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Austrian Ambassador to Belarus Aloisia Worgetter, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Andreichenko noted that Belarus and Austria have recently reached a high level of political contacts. “We hope that the visit of the Belarusian president to Austria will open a new bright page in our relations, and I am sure this is how it will be,” Vladimir Andreichenko noted.
The speaker drew attention to the similarity of the positions of the two countries. “Austria has always called for building bridges between East and West. This coincides with the position of Belarus. Today is a very difficult time," he said.
Turning to inter-parliamentary relations, the speaker described them as constructive. The countries cooperate actively in the OSCE PA and, according to Vladimir Andreichenko, they need to maintain and nurture this cooperation.
Belarus is interested in intensifying parliamentary cooperation with Austria, and would like to see more Austrian investments in its economy.
During the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to work more actively on all fronts and reviewed the prospects for trade and economic relations, interregional contacts, cooperation in science, technology, and tourism.
