MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian government attaches considerable attention to the development of book publishing in the country, Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich said at a press conference on 31 August, BelTA has learned.
New book stores that open in different cities and towns of Belarus attest to this. A modern book store opened in the town of Shchuchin, this year’s literary capital of Belarus, on 31 August. The store offers a wide range of editions published in the country. Lilia Ananich said she was happy to see children and adults visiting the store and taking pleasure in flipping through the recently published Belarusian books. The store became a wonderful present for the town that will host this year’s celebrations of the Belarusian Written Language Day.
It has become a good tradition to celebrate this day in small Belarusian towns. Shchuchin will play host to the celebrations of the 22nd Belarusian Written Language Day on 6 September. The town is the birthplace of the renowned poetess Alaiza Pashkievich (Ciotka) and several other people who made a significant contribution to the development of Belarusian culture.
In different years, the celebrations were held in Polotsk, Turov, Zaslavl, Novogrudok, Nesvizh, Orsha, Pinsk, Mstislavl, Mir, Kamenets, Postavy, Shklov, Borisov, Bykhov, and other Belarusian cities and towns.
