MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) –Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur has told the ONT TV channel about Belarus-India cooperation in mechanical engineering and oil and gas sector, BelTA has learned.
“BelAZ has recently won two big tenders to supply dump trucks to India. This is the first time someone has challenged American suppliers on the Indian market. This is a good step. I would also like to mention cooperation in the oil and gas industry. Thanks to Belarusian technology, India managed to restore some of its deposits and now we produce oil again. In addition to that, a Belarusian company is designing and building gas stations in India,” Sangeeta Bahadur said.
According to the ambassador, collaboration in the defense sector is also making progress. “In my view, Belarusian companies are doing pretty well on the Indian market and we expect the Indian business to scale up its operations in Belarus, too. We need to look for new avenues of cooperation. Potash fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, machinery and equipment – these are traditional sectors, but we need something new. It is also important to strengthen contacts at the high level. This will send a certain signal to the business community,” she noted.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Belarus soon. “He has accepted the invitation, so the visit will take place in the near future,” Sangeeta Bahadur informed.
Speaking about the tourism industry, the ambassador mentioned a favorable geographical location as one of Belarus’ advantages. In her view, Belarus should work harder to make itself more visible for foreign tourists. Sangeeta Bahadur is convinced that Belarus-India cooperation will contribute to the promotion of tourism. For example, a team from Bollywood is going to shoot a movie in Belarus that will be screened in various countries of the world.
