MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) - Russia supports Belarus’ Helsinki 2 initiative, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov told reporters, BelTA has learned.
According to the ambassador, Russia supports Belarus’ aspirations to stabilize the situation in the region. “We support the initiative of the Belarusian leadership aimed at defusing the tensions, creating conditions for a meaningful dialogue on security and stability in Europe and other regions of the world. In particular the matter is about the launch of the Helsinki 2 process,” the ambassador noted.
Given the deteriorating international situation, Russia highly appreciates that Belarus shares Russia’s concerns about “whipping up” military hysteria that might in the end lead to serious military and political complications, the consequences of which are hard to predict, he added.
