Ambassador: Russia sees nothing wrong with Belarus’ improving relations with the West

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - Russia sees nothing wrong with Belarus’ improving relations with the EU and the United States, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov told the media n 20 December, BelTA has learned.

“Sovereign Belarus has been improving the relations with the European Union and the United States. We see nothing wrong in this. Moreover, we believe that building such relations on an equal mutually advantageous basis is long overdue due to the intransigent position of the West," Alexander Surikov noted.

He noted that Russia has been also developing relations with the West seeking to normalize them.

The Russian side provides assistance to the Belarusian partners with the accession to the World Trade Organization, in cooperation, with the cooperation with the IMF.

Alexander Surikov added that Russia welcomes Belarus’ efforts to develop relations with Western partners especially if this does not contradict the commitments undertaken within the framework of the Union State, the Eurasian Economic Union and the CIS.
