MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – China and Belarus maintain partner relations in healthcare, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said in an interview with BelTA in the run-up to the state visit of the highest-level Belarusian delegation to Beijing.
“After the outbreak of COVID-19, China and Belarus have been helping each other and fighting the pandemic hand in hand. On the personal instructions of Aleksandr Lukashenko, a humanitarian cargo to combat the pandemic was sent to China by military aircraft two times,” the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission said.
After the outbreak of the pandemic in Belarus, the Chinese government, cities and regions, enterprises, and the embassy also provided Belarus with numerous batches of humanitarian aid. Medical experts of the two countries regularly exchanged best practices on infection prevention and control, as well as diagnosis and treatment. China donated several batches of COVID-19 vaccine to Belarus free of charge.
“Faced with the malign intention of some countries to use the research of the origin of the coronavirus for political manipulation, the Belarusian side strongly opposed the politicization of this issue,” Xie Xiaoyong emphasized.
In his opinion, all this fully reflects the profound friendship between the Chinese and Belarusian peoples, and also demonstrates the true meaning of the proverb ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed’.
