MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – China-Belarus relations are based on shared values and mutually beneficial cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said on 25 September at a reception in Minsk to mark the 74th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, BelTA reports.
“In the course of 31 years since the establishment of diplomatic contacts, China-Belarus relations have withstood the tests of a rapidly changing international situation and are continuously making new breakthroughs,” the ambassador said.
“The progress has been particularly significant in recent years, when bilateral cooperation has achieved remarkable results in various fields under the strategic leadership and thanks to personal contribution of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko,” Xie Xiaoyong noted. “Bilateral relations are becoming more steadfast. Last September, the two heads of state held a historic meeting in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where they announced plans to upgrade the China-Belarus relations to an all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. After that, we saw a historic breakthrough in the bilateral relations,” the ambassador noted.
The diplomat emphasized that international cooperation is becoming stronger. “The two sides support each other on issues related to each other’s core interests, coordinate their policies in international affairs, and effectively protect the principles of multilateralism and the common interests of developing countries,” Xie Xiaoyong added.
