Ambassador: Austria hopes for stronger cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – Austria hopes to strengthen cooperation with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Belarus Aloisia Worgetter said at a function held in the House of Friendship on 4 February to mark the 27th anniversary of the Belarusian-Austrian diplomatic relations, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat emphasized the importance of developing the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation, including cultural relations. The interaction will be activated with the opening of the new office of the Austrian embassy in Minsk. It opened about two weeks ago with the participation of the ministers of foreign affairs of the two countries.

According to the ambassador, Belarus and Austria have close economic, inter-parliamentary, and also good interpersonal contacts. She stressed the importance of the twinning relations between cities, regions and took note of the mutual interest to expand them.

Head of the Europe Department at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Vorobyov praised the level of Belarusian-Austrian cooperation. The visit of the Austrian president to Minsk in 2018 to attend the opening of the second stage of the Trostenets memorial testifies to the fact. The common memory of the tragic events of the Second World War is an important aspect of modern relations between the two states.

Former Ambassador of Belarus to Austria, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives, head of the working parliamentary friendship group with Austria Valery Voronetsky is convinced that cooperation with Austria has risen to a new level.

Chairman of the Board of Priorbank, Honorary Consul of Austria in Belarus, Chairman of the Belarus-Austria Friendship Society Sergei Kostyuchenko spoke about the importance of developing investment cooperation. He is confident that it is necessary to learn from Austria the ways to develop and compete under modern conditions. Sergei Kostyuchenko added that the Austrian partners came to the Belarusian market with great caution. Gradually it gave way to trust and mutual understanding.

Chairperson of the Belarusian Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Nina Ivanova thanked Austria for great efforts invested in over the past 30 years to improve the health of Belarusian children from the Chernobyl-hit areas.
