MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – The issue of security is existential for the Eurasian region and the world as a whole, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik said at the high-level international conference “Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World” in Minsk on 26 October, BelTA has learned.
“Judging by the active communication prior to the meeting, you began to discuss the highly relevant topic of Eurasian security in the morning. And this shows once again that this issue is not just relevant for us, it is existential for our region of greater Eurasia and the world as a whole. The fact that we all acknowledge it serves as a unifying start for our conference. Let this become the first brick in the foundation of Eurasian security, and I hope that over time, through joint efforts, we will be able to build all the rest,” said Sergei Aleinik.
The minister noted that the hospitality, friendliness and peacefulness of the Belarusian land create a conducive environment for such meetings. Experts, diplomats and politicians have already discussed European security in a similar format at the Minsk dialogue platform several times.
“At first we tried to come up with a universal security formula. After that we discussed how to move away from the edge of the abyss. Unfortunately, our hopes for the best were thwarted. The most gloomy forecasts came true,” the minister remarked.
