MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – Belarus has played an important role for Ukraine, Alain Aeschlimann, Head of the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine, said as he commented on the recent Belarusian humanitarian aid for Ukraine, BelTA has learned.
As BelTA reported earlier, the humanitarian aid will be delivered by the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry to Kiev District and handed to the International Red Cross Mission in Ukraine.
“We are happy and grateful to the Belarusian government for the humanitarian aid for Ukraine. Food and things for 4,000 people will be distributed on both sides of the contact line, according to the procedure of the Internaitonal Committee of the Red Cross. It is the first time we are receiving such a contribution by the Belarusian government, and this initiative cannot be but welcomed,” said Alain Aeschlimann.
In his words, Belarus’ support is of great importance for the Red Cross in Ukraine. “We believe that Belarus has played an important role for Ukraine as a neighboring country. Belarus has welcomed thousands of Ukrainians and also offered its venue for the parties to discuss the ways of settling the conflict,” the head of the delegation added.
