MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – Renowned violinist Leticia Moreno and East-West Chamber Orchestra, a holographic show, and a presentation of a record to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mieczyslaw Weinberg will be in the lineup of the concert Visualization. Music and History during the 14th Yuri Bashmet International Music Festival, BelTA learned from the organizers.
“On 9 October, world-class star and celebrated violinist Leticia Moreno will perform in the Big Concert Hall of the Belarusian State Philharmonics. She plays a unique instrument – a violin created by Stradivari’s pupil, Italian violin-maker Nicolo Gagliano in 1762,” the organizers said. “The first part of the concert will feature Leticia Moreno and East-West Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Rostislav Krimer who will perform The Four Seasons, a set of tango compositions for violin by Astor Piazzolla.”
In the second part of the concert, East-West Chamber Orchestra will perform chamber symphonies by Mieczyslaw Weinberg to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the composer. The live performance of the orchestra will be coupled with an incredible holographic show. The stage will be fitted with a thin silver 7-meter wide net which will visualize the music and enable spectators discover new meanings in the music and the difficult history of the life and art of the composer who escaped Holocaust in Belarus.
Moreover, a presentation of a record of Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s music will also take place on 9 October. We have recorded this piece as a testament of our respect and gratitude to Mieczyslaw Weinberg. Today his music is performed around the whole world. Minsk is a city which literally saved his life and gave millions of people a chance to listen to works of the genius composer, Artistic Director of the orchestra Rostislav Krimer said. It is a great honor for us to record Weinberg’s music and we were doing it with great inspiration and joy. The best musicians and the record label Naxos contributed to the record. I believe that this collaboration of the best artists from various parts of the world is an example of peace and friendship, and this music is a manifestation of love which unites peoples and generations.
Leticia Moreno is a winner of a lot of prestigious awards, including the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Martin Musical Scholarship and Spanish AIE and JJMM awards. She gave her first recitals when she was five, studied with Zakhar Bron in Madrid and Cologne, and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The 34-year-old violinist has already performed with a lot of famous orchestras and conductors.
Mieczyslaw (Moisey) Weinberg was born in Warsaw in 1919, but fled to Minsk when World War II started, where his career as a composer began. He graduated from the Belarusian State Conservatory and studied under the People’s Artist of the BSSR Vasily Zolotarev. Weinberg is the author of over a hundred classical music pieces. The composer wrote music to over 50 films and cartoons. He has become an inspiration for other renowned composers and musicians.
The 14th Yuri Bashmet International Music Festival will run in Minsk from 27 September till 12 October. Musicians from all over the world will perform in the best concert halls of Minsk.
