MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) - The 19th national tournament of young mathematicians has opened in Minsk, BelTA learned from the press center of the Education Ministry.
More than 20 teams have applied. Sixteen of them, including a team from St. Petersburg (Russia), have qualified to participate in the intramural part the contest.
This year the event is hosted by the Akhremchik gymnasium-college of art. The organizers are the Education Ministry of Belarus and Belarusian State University. The tournament will be running till 10 December.
The tournament of young mathematicians is a team competition in which students solve problems, present the results, defend their points of view in a public debate. The event is organized as a mathematical battle, during which the teams take turns to present their results and to act as opponents and reviewers for other participants.
