MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) - Yanka Kupala commemorative plaques will be installed in Slovakia, Director of the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum Yelena Leshkovich said at a press conference in Minsk on 6 July, BelTA has learned.
“Next year we are planning to install the plaques in Slovakia. The design is ready, and the preliminary consent of town mayors has been received,” Yelena Leshkovich noted. “We are also working on the idea to unveil a commemorative plaque in honor of the Belarusian poet in Finland. We would like to get the plaque installed near the Imatra waterfall which the poet visited in 1910 and to which he dedicated the famous poem “Over Іmatra”, she added.
According to Belarus Deputy Culture Minister Vasily Chernik, Yanka Kupala is one of the brightest and most talented poets who raised the Belarusian poetry to the world level. Now the Belarusian Culture Ministry and the Yanka Kupala museum are carrying out a number of activities on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the poet. Among them are exhibitions in Serbia, Moldova, Latvia, Slovenia, and Georgia. The deputy minister noted that all the events and activities on the occasion of the poet's birthday will receive a positive public feedback.
