MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – A portrait sculpture of Belarusian national poet Yakub Kolas was unveiled in Tianjin Foreign Studies University on 18 September, the Belarusian Embassy in China told BelTA.
During the opening ceremony Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Kirill Rudy noted that Belarusian national poet Yakub Kolas is a symbol of patriotism and courage of the Belarusian people. The poet always felt his great personal responsibility for the country’s destiny, its independence and importance in the world. President of the university Chen Fachun gave Kirill Rudy a certificate of a visiting professor at Tianjin Foreign Studies University. Following the ceremony the Belarusian diplomat gave a lecture to the students.
The project to made the portrait sculpture was implemented by decision of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. Belarus’ Culture Ministry was responsible for the project execution. The portrait sculpture was made by renowned Belarusian sculptor Sergei Gumilevsky.
In recent years, Tianjin Foreign Studies University has been actively working with Belarusian universities to popularize the Belarusian language and culture in China. The university has a Belarusian studies center, employs Belarusian professors and is engaged in research activities.
