Yakub Kolas' poems to be translated into Persian

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - Yakub Kolas' poems will be translated into Persian for the first time, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Belarus Saeed Yari told BelTA on the sidelines of a ceremony to launch the literary exhibition "Yakub Kolas and Omar Khayyam: life wisdom in the word of poetry” in Minsk on 18 May.

The exhibition opened at the Yakub Kolas State Literary and Memorial Museum on the International Museum Day. Ambassador Saeed Yari believes that the legacy of Yakub Kolas and Omar Khayyam belongs to the world and urged to popularize it more. He also spoke about the idea to translate the works of the Belarusian classical poet into Persian so that Iran learn more about his art.

The Iranian ambassador suggested that the project to translate Yakub Kolas' poems into Persian and Omar Khayyam's works into the Belarusian Language eventually result in a book. He does not rule out that this idea will be implemented in time for the next Minsk International Book Fair. Iran traditionally participates in this exhibition presenting its rich book arr on a large scale.

Yakub Kolas and Omar Khayyam lived at different times, in different countries, and belonged to different religions, but the center of their art was man. Omar Khayyam’s poetry was composed in rubai, one of the most complex genre forms of Persian poetry, original philosophical and lyrical quatrains. Omar Khayyam is the unsurpassed master of this genre. Yakub Kolas' poem The New Land is considered a wise encyclopedia of the Belarusian rural life in the late 19th-early 20th century. Yakub Kolas' wisdom lies in the very view of the world and is embodied in the detailed description of many realities of life.

Belarus and Iran continue to develop cultural cooperation, which is an important area of comprehensive cooperation between the two states.
