MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization Taleb Rifai will visit Belarus in April. The UN officer is expected to take part in an international conference on using tourism for the economic development of the regions, representatives of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry told BelTA.
The conference will take place in Minsk on 8 April. As part of the first block “Tourism and regional economic development” UNWTO experts will present reports on global trends in environmental tourism development. Cooperation between the state and the private sector in the sphere of ecotourism and the international experience of making local communities part of ecotourism will be discussed. Tourism industry specialists will discuss prospects of farm tourism in Belarus and the economic development of the regions of the country.
The second block will be dedicated to tourism clusters, the formation of tourism clusters, innovative methods to promote them, the accessibility of ecotourism products for people with physical disabilities.
The conference is aimed at popularizing international experience and Belarus’ experience in the area of local economic development through stable tourism, stronger public private partnership in tourism, and spreading knowledge and experience of using modern technologies for promoting tourism clusters.
The conference will be organized by the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry and the USAID project on local entrepreneurship and economic development, which is being implemented by the UNDP.
