MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – The World Press Photo exhibition 2017 in Minsk will present the best press photos of 2016, BelTA has learned.
The 2017 contest drew entries from around the world: 5,034 photographers from 126 countries submitted 80,408 images. The photos were presented in eight nominations: Spot News, General News, Contemporary News, Daily Life, People, Nature, Sports, and Long-Term Projects. The jury composed of 20 internationally recognized professionals in the fields of photojournalism and documentary photography gave prizes in eight categories to 45 photographers from 25 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Syria, New Zealand, Turkey, UK, and USA. Burhan Ozbilici won the World Press Photo of the Year award. The Turkish photographer made a series of images of the assassination of Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov at an Ankara art gallery.
In April 2017 the winning photographers were invited to Amsterdam. They received a Golden Eye award during the festival of visual journalism organized by the World Press Photo Foundation. The World Press Photo winning images were assembled into an exhibition that travels to 45 countries and is seen by more than 4 million people each year. This is the second time the World Press photo exhibition comes to Belarus.
The exhibition will be held in the TSEKH art gallery on 4-24 May.
