MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – The WHO supports the measures being taken by the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry to detect the virus early, to trace contacts, to isolate them and to provide professional assistance to patients, reads the letter from WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge to Belarus’ Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik, BelTA learned from the press service of the Healthcare Ministry.
Hans Kluge expressed particular concern about the threatening and rapid spread of coronavirus infection in the European region. The WHO calls on all countries to step up their efforts by using a combination of public health evidence-based measures to contain the disease and control its spread, which is crucial in Europe. “In this regard, we would like to express our full support and solidarity with the measures being taken against COVID-19 in Belarus,” the letter said.
The WHO regional director for Europe emphasized the professional approach of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry to respond to the COVID-19 emergency, including early detection of infection, monitoring of contacts, isolation and patient care. “These measures are essential to stop the transmission and prevent the spread of coronavirus infection,” the letter says.
The awareness of the risks and recommended measures to reduce the COVID-19 spread is critical to addressing the problem. In this regard, Hans Kluge commended Belarus for its active efforts to provide the population with regular and open information about the situation and measures taken. “We are also grateful to Belarus for its openness in sharing information and timely reports in accordance with the International Health Regulations, which helps us better understand the nature and course of the epidemic and coordinate the response on a global scale,” the letter says.
Acknowledging the complexity of the situation, the WHO is pleased to note that the approach of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry complies with the organization’s recommendations. “All the measures take into account the development of the epidemiological situation and adequate assessment of the existing risks,” said Hans Kluge.
The WHO will continue its cooperation and will be ready to further provide the necessary support to Belarus in implementing measures to combat the COVID-19 infection.
