MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) – The Victory Day celebrations in Belarus were wrapped up with the 30-salvo fireworks late on 9 May, BelTA has learned.
The celebrations kicked off with the nationwide campaign Belarus Remembers and a wreath ceremony at the Victory Monument in Minsk. The ceremony was attended by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, high ranking officials, heads of government bodies, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, representatives of the general public, youth and children’s organizations, public associations. The ceremony ended with a mass singing of Den Pobedy (Victory Day) song.
The 9 May celebrations included a variety of cultural, sports, information and other events throughout the Belarusian capital, with the area near the Palace of Sports being the major venue to mark the date. It hosted a concert featuring Minsk singers and dancers, a trading show of arts and crafts and an international power extreme tournament.
In the evening Victory Square played host to the Victory Square 2017 TV project that featured a theatrical music and 3D show. The performance was accompanied by the Presidential Orchestra of Belarus.
The celebrations were wrapped up with the spectacular fireworks in five venues of the Belarusian capital: near Victory Square, Minsk Hero City Memorial, Minsk Airport 1, Drozdy Water Reservoir, and Uruchye Residential Area. Fireworks were also held in the Brest Fortress, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev.
