MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 79 Victoria Azarenka has progressed to the 2018 US Open round two, BelTA informs.
In the opener the Belarusian saw off Slovakia’s Viktoria Kuzmova, the world number 56, 6-3, 7-5.
Earlier, Belarus’ world number 72 Vera Lapko defeated Ukraine’s world number 86 Kateryna Bondarenko in two straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
Belarus’ world number 33 Aliaksandra Sasnovich will face today Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, while world number 20 Aryna Sabalenka will play U.S. Danielle Collins (World No.37).
The main draw of the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year will end on 9 September. The 2018 US Open prize money is $53 million.
