MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – Victoria Azarenka was elected to the Player’s Council of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), BelTA learned from the WTA press service.
Venus Williams (the USA), Johanna Konta (the UK) and Samantha Stosur were also elected to the Player’s Council. All the players rank among the top 20 of the global rankings. Lucie Safarova (the Czech Republic) will represent the tennis players that made it to the top 50, and Julia Boserup (the USA) will represent the top 100 tennis players. Marina Erakovic was also elected to the Player’s Council but without the right to vote.
Victoria Azarenka is 205th in the WTA rankings. The best-placed Belarusian tennis player is Alexandra Sasnovich (86th place).
