MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) - In the run-up to International Women’s Day, wife of the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vera Polyakova-Makei held a traditional meeting with spouses of the heads of diplomatic missions in the Belarusian Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater on 1 March, BelTA has learned.
According to Vera Polyakova-Makei, the theater was not randomly chosen for the meeting. It is one of the calling cards of Minsk and an important cultural facility of the country. She noted that she views the forthcoming International Women’s Day first of all as a symbol of peace and happiness and wished all the present spring mood ad wellbeing.
The ambassadors’ spouses were taken on a tour around the Bolshoi Theater and learnt about its history which dates back to 1933, and watched La Traviata rehearsal.
Director General of the Bolshoi Theater Vladimir Gridyushko extended greetings to all the present on the occasion of the coming Women’s Day and emphasized the women’s role in the society of every state.
The event included a concert that featured a number of Belarusian singers.
The spouses of the foreign ambassadors stated that the event was interesting and offered a glimpse of the Belarusian theater art and the country’s culture in general.
