MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Vera Lapko of Belarus advanced into the quarterfinal of the 2016 Australian Open Junior Championships, BelTA informs.

In the third round the 17-year-old Belarusian, ranked 533^rd in the world, took a solid 6-2, 6-3 win over Japan’s Chihiro Muramatsu (World No.890). Earlier, the Belarusian beat Jia Ren of China 6-1, 6-4 and Michaela Haet of Australia 6-1, 6-4.

Vera Lapko remains Belarus’ only representative on the Melbourne Park courts. Victoria Azarenka lost in the women’s singles quarterfinal on 27 January. Olga Govortsova, Alexandra Sasnovich, Max Mirnyi, Sergei Betov and Alexander Bury completed their performance in Australia as well.

The $32 million Australian Open 2016 will finish on 31 January.
