MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – The first batch of fruits and vegetables harvested on the territory of the official residence of the Belarusian President Drozdy was delivered to the rest home for pensioners and disabled people and to the children’s orphanage in Leninsky District on 18 August, BelTA learned from Spokesperson for the President Natalya Eismont.
Eco-friendly products – potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, marrows, melons and water melons – grown by the head of state were delivered by his younger son Nikolai.
It is not by accident that the rest home for pensioners and disabled people received the first batch of products. In December students of the secondary school in Ostroshitsky Gorodok where Nikolai Lukashenko studies took this rest home under patronage. School students have been visiting the rest home and have given performances there since then. Natalya Eismont said that people living in the rest home were very happy to receive the gift.
The other part of fruits and vegetables was delivered to the children’s orphanage. Only 15 out of 90 children were there, others are in various recuperation facilities. The children held a small excursion for the visitors, showed where they live, what they are doing in their free time.
The harvesting campaign launched in the President’s residence on Sunday was continued on Monday and Tuesday. Early varieties are being harvested there.
Belarusian agrarians had to adjust to the changing climate conditions. Many Belarusian farmers grow paprika, eggplants and other plants. The head of state showed that it is possible to grow melons and water melons in Belarus. At present these fruits are grown by agricultural companies and private farmers. They are as good as southern ones.
