MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka took under an hour to defeat Slovenia’s world number 40 Tamara Zidansek, 6-3, 6-1, to move into the third round of the US Open, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face world number 29 Danielle Collins of the United States. Aryna Sabalenka needed three sets to defeat Serbia's world number 94 Nina Stojanovic, 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-0, in the opener.
Former world number one Victoria Azarenka, currently ranked 19, progressed into the third round after defeating World No.99 Jasmine Paolini of Italy, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1). The Belarusian will next play Spain’s world number 10 Garbine Muguruza.
Belarus’ world number 53 Ilya Ivashka won the US Open first round against world number 91 Tennys Sandgren of the United States, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-4. The Belarusian will next take on Canada’s world number 58 Vasek Pospisil.
