BREST, 20 July (BelTA) - The University of Alicante, the largest one in Spain, is interested in cooperation with universities of Brest, Mr Alfonso Jurado Mesa, future Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus in Alicante, said as he met with Chairman of the Brest City Hall Alexander Rogachuk, BelTA has learned.
The future Belarus’ Consul in Spain handed over to the executives of the Brest universities cooperation contracts with the University of Alicante which provide for the exchange of students and teaching staff. Rector of the Brest State Technical University Piotr Poita said that his university is interested in such cooperation. "In 2013, we signed a memorandum of understanding on the TEMPO project of the Erasmus Mundus academic mobility program with a number of Western European universities, including the University of Alicante. Its professors have already visited Brest and gave lectures on information protection and computer graphics to our students,” he said. Rector of the Pushkin University Anna Sender offered Spanish counterparts to carry out joint scientific-practical conferences.
Mr Alfonso Jurado Mesa will be approved as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Belarus in Alicante in the near future. But he has already started getting familiar with the regions of Belarus. The future diplomat brought concrete proposals to Brest. According to him, the Spanish side is interested in the development of relations in economy, trade, education, culture, tourism.
Alexander Rogachuk also suggested areas of cooperation with Spanish regions. "Brest is interested in establishing friendly relations with Alicante. This is due to the tourist and cultural factors. We must advance to the Spanish market. We need to find common ground and seek what we, Brest and Belarus in general, can offer to the province of Valencia,” said the Brest city mayor.
