Two Medallions for Excellence for Belarus in San Paolo

MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – Belarus won two Medallions for Excellence at the 43rd WorldSkills Competition 2015. The closing ceremony of the championship took place in Brazilian Sao Paulo on 16 August, BelTA learned from the press center of the Education Ministry of Belarus.

The winners in 50 skills were announced at the closing ceremony. The Belarusian national team consisting of 17 people competed in the 15 skills (mechatronics, CNC Milling, CNC Turning, mobile robotics, electronics, and also in Information Network Cabling, Hairdressing, Restaurant Service, etc.). Two Belarusians were awarded the Medallions for Excellence given to competitors who achieve at least 500 points. These were Alesya Nazarova in Hairdressing (516 points) and Olga Zakrevskaya in Fashion Technology (515). Alesya Nazarova also walked off with the Best of Nation award which is presented to one contestant from each country who has earned the most points on the team. Another medal was awarded to the technical delegate of WorldSkills Belarus Olga Dekhtyarenko for serving as president of the jury in the Visual Merchandising nomination.

The competition in San Paolo saw about 1,192 competitors from 59 countries battling it out in 50 skill categories, 1144 experts from 70 countries, 301 translators, and 800 volunteers.

Belarus first participated in the prestigious international competition after joining the WorldSkills International Association in January 2014. Currently, the WorldSkills movement involves 74 countries, including such leading and emerging economies of the world as Germany, France, Japan, Republic of Korea, the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Russia.
