MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Sergei Vyazovich’s and Alexander Vasilevsky’s MAZ-SPORTavto crews made it into the Top Ten of Dakar 2019, BelTA has learned.
The prestigious auto marathon finished in Lima, the capital of Peru on 17 January. The final stage was won by Ton van Genugten of the Netherlands who clocked 1h28m. Alexander Vasilevsky finished 8th, five minutes behind the winner. Sergei Vyazovich came in 10th.
The Dakar 2019 truck overall standings was topped by Russia’s Eduard Nikolaev (KAMAZ Master). Russia’s Dmitry Sotnikov placed second. Gerard de Rooy’s IVECO Team (the Nethelands) clinched bronze.
The Dakar 2018 silver medalist Sergei Vyazovich placed 6th, Alexander Vasilevsky – 8th.
The 2019 Dakar race ran solely in Peru over a total of 5,000 kilometers. The event completed on 17 January. More than half of the route ran through sandy roads with huge dunes and other obstacles.
