MINSK, 28 June (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes have won 16 licenses with 100 days remaining before the start of the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.
As of 28 June the Belarusian swimmers won four licenses, acrobatics and wrestling teams two each. The final number of licenses will be determined in August this year.
Olympic champion Dmitry Dovgalenok, the head of the Olympic movement department at Belarus’ NOC, has been appointed chief of the Belarusian sport delegation to the upcoming Summer Youth Olympic Games. Vasily Yurchik, the head of the international affairs department at Belarus’ NOC, has been appointed his deputy.
The Summer Youth Olympic Games for athletes aged between 15-18 in 32 sports will feature 3,998 participating athletes (1,999 boys and 1,999 girls). This will be the first games where the organizers have ensured gender equality. The 12-day games will include 241 medal events.
Previously the Summer Youth Olympic Games were hosted by Singapore and China’s Nanjing where Belarus won seven medals.
