MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 50 Aliaksandra Sasnovich went off to a good start at the Internationaux de Strasbourg earning a 6-4, 6-2 win over France’s world number 725 Julie Gervais in the opener, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face either Germany’s world number 22 Angelique Kerber or France’s Diane Parry (96).
Aliaksandra Sasnovich went through the qualifying round defeating Russia’s Vlada Koval (373), 6-1, 6-3, and Germany’s Lena Papadakis (349), 6-2, 6-3.
In the doubles opener Belarus’ Lidziya Marozava and U.S. Kaitlyn Christian cruised past Russian duo Alena Fomina and Angelina Gabueva, 6-0, 6-1.
The tournament in Strasbourg will be over on 21 May. Next, the world’s best tennis players will travel to Paris where Roland Garros will kick off on 22 May.
