MOSCOW, 15 January (BelTA) – The 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will take place in St Petersburg on 16-18 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian embassy in Russia following the meeting of Belarus’ Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vladimir Semashko with Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Yury Vorobyov.
"Yury Vorobyov emphasized the allied nature of the Belarusian-Russian relations and stressed that with the efforts of both Belarus and Russia direct interregional ties have been recently brought to a new level of cooperation. Five forums of the regions of Belarus and Russia have contributed to the fact. He also spoke about the preparation for the 6th Forum, which will be held in St Petersburg on 16-18 July 2019,” the diplomatic mission said.
In turn, Vladimir Semashko stressed that the development of cooperation with the regions of Russia have always been and remains one of the foreign economic priorities for Belarus. The ambassador expressed confidence that the forum will continue to attract regional authorities, representatives of enterprises and the business community to develop practical solutions to improve cooperation in their respective fields.
The parties discussed prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation. It was noted that the constructive joint work of MPs of both countries helps maintain a positive political dialogue and mutual efforts in the international arena. “The parties also stressed their readiness to develop further cooperation on the whole range of issues of mutual interest,” the press service added.
The Forum of Regions is held annually in Belarus and Russia on a rota basis. It is organized by the upper chambers of parliaments of the two countries: the Council of the Republic and the Federation Council. The 5th Forum was held in Mogilev in October 2018.
