MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – The Sovetskaya Belorussiya [Soviet Belarus] newspaper editorial board has been renamed into the publishing house Belarus Segodnya [Belarus Today]. Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova has signed the relevant executive order, BelTA has learned.
The renaming is the final step in the campaign designed to improve the system of nationwide printed mass media. The campaign began in 2013 when a number of nationwide media were merged with the Sovetskaya Belorussiya newspaper editorial board. Today the publishing house Belarus Segodnya publishes the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper, the Respublika newspaper, the Narodnaya Gazeta newspaper, the Selskaya Gazeta newspaper, and the Znamya Yunosti newspaper. The publishing house also includes the radio station Alpha Radio and the website www.sb.by. The publishing house is busy implementing the Soyuz project and the Soyuznoye Veche project together with partners from Russia.
Dmitry Zhuk, head of the publishing house Belarus Segodnya, told BelTA: “The process meant to improve the system of printed mass media is more than exterior transformation. A lot of organizational work has been done. I am talking about a large team of highly qualified professionals. More than that, the history of our mass media is the history of our country. For example, our top newspaper was founded back in 1927 and was published under the title Rabochy [Worker] for the first ten years. Between 1937 and virtually up till now it was titled as Sovetskaya Belorussiya. Obviously, now is the time for the brand our readers have come to know and love – SB. Belarus Segodnya – to also become a legal fact.”
In his words, the current traditions and the editorial policy will remain unchanged. “To be exact, we will continue writing a truthful chronicle of our beautiful land and our fine hardworking people. It is the key goal of the publishing house Belarus Segodnya,” said Dmitry Zhuk.
