VITEBSK, 26 October (BelTA) – St Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk will host the 26th edition of the international festival of organ music Sophia Bells on 7-28 November, BelTA learned from the Museum of the History Architecture of St Sophia Cathedral.
The festival will welcome musicians from Belarus and Russia in the concert hall of the temple. The overture to the festival will be a performance by the St. Petersburg Concert Duo consisting of international competition laureate Ekaterina Marishkina (organ) and Honored Artist of Russia Mark Taube (violin). On 7 November, the soloists will present a program featuring works by composers of the 18th-20th centuries, and also fantasies on the themes of famous operas such as The Barber of Seville, Norma, and Carmen.
The official opening of the festival of organ music will take place on 14 November. The festive program is prepared by the permanent members of the Bells of Sophia festival - Honored Artist of Belarus Ksenia Pogorelaya (organ) and the Europe-Center Chamber Orchestra. Tomaso Albinoni's Trio Sonata for Two Violins and Basso Continuo will be performed at the festival for the first time. Belarusian organist Ekaterina Nikolayeva, winner of international competitions, will give a concert on 21 November. The program includes the famous Toccata and Fugue d-moll by Bach and works by outstanding composers of the French organ school Louis Vierne and Maurice Durufle.
The performance of a star duet of musicians will wrap up the festival on 28 November. Composer and organist Alexei Shmitov and Honored Artist of Russia, People's Artist of Abkhazia, soloist of the musical theater Helikon Opera Alisa Gitsba will come to Polotsk with the only concert in Belarus.
Tickets are available at St. Sophia Cathedral, the Museum of the Belarusian Book Printing and the Nature and Ecology Museum. Music lovers from other cities have the opportunity to purchase tickets online. Tickets will be on sale through 7 November.
