Minsk, 12 August (BelTA) – Belarusian chess player Olga Badelka placed second at the European Youth Chess Championship 2019 in Bratislava, Slovakia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry.
Olga Badelka scored 7.5 points in the category Girls U18. The gold in this category went to Alicja Sliwicka of Poland who secured eight victories and suffered one defeat at the hands of Olga Badelka. In the 9th round Olga Badelka did her best to win the gold but had to end the game in a draw.
Her teammate Kseniya Zeliantsova was fourth in Girls U14. Varvara Matskevich also took the fourth place in Girls U8.
The competition drew over 1,300 young chess players from 48 countries.
The next major chess event will be held in Belarus on 15-19 August. The Palace of Sports in Minsk will host the World Cadet U8, U10, U12 Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2019.
