MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – Anastasia Shkurdai of Belarus set a new record for Belarus in the 100m backstroke at the 2019 Swimming LEN Latvian Open Championships in Riga, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Swimming Federation.
The Belarusian clocked 1:00.62 to beat Aliaksandra Herasimenia’s 2011 record of 1:00.68. Alina Zmushko of Belarus set another national record, 31.25 seconds, in the 50m breaststroke. The previous record of 31.29 seconds was set by Inna Kapishina in 2009.
The Belarusian national team took part in the 2019 Swimming LEN Latvian Open Championships after the training camp in Tenerife and won 61 medals.
The tournament in Riga was a qualifier for the 2019 FINA World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea scheduled for 12-28 July and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Belarusian athletes also qualified for the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples: Ilya Shimanovich (50m, 100m breaststroke) and Alina Zmushko (50m breaststroke). According to the Belarusian Swimming Federation, Anastasia Shkurdai met the parameters for the junior world and European championships. Ivan Adamchuk qualified for the 2019 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival.
