Second stage of archaeological museum in Belovezhskaya Pushcha may open in May

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) - The second stage of the archaeological open-air museum project in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park may open in May, Vadim Lakiza, deputy director for science at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), told a press conference, BelTA has learned.

The first stage of the archaeological museum project was unveiled in the summer of 2019. The second stage may be launched in May. “Both Belarusians and foreign visitors will be able to get familiar with residential and outbuildings of the late Iron Age, if the epidemiological situations allows,” said Vadim Lakiza.

According to Vyacheslav Danilovich, director of the NASB Institute of History, the archaeological museum in Belovezhskaya Pushcha is the first such open-air complex in Belarus.

Such archeology monuments help keep the historical memory and encourage patriotism. They always draw tourists. The first open-air archaeological museum in Belarus was opened in order to preserve and popularize the country's unique historical and cultural heritage. The project has recreated the fortification of the Late Bronze - early Iron Age, which dates back to the 8th century BC - the 5th century AD.

All in all, the project will feature seven museum complexes which will showcase the tangible and intangible culture of western regions of Belarus from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.
