VITEBSK, 18 October (BelTA) – An international conference timed to the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War will take place in Vitebsk on 18-20 October, BelTA learned from the History Faculty of Masherov Vitebsk State University.
The three-day international conference titled “First World War and the formation of the Versailles-Washington system of international relations” will bring together representatives of educational institutions and research centers from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Latvia. About 50 reports are to be delivered.
Researchers will discuss a broad range of matters related to international relations and diplomacy in the run-up to the war and factors that led to the hostilities; they will analyze the situation on the frontlines of WWI, assess the aftermath and lessons learned, evaluate the losses and damage incurred by Belarus, as well as life in the rear and the sources used by contemporary historians to study the war. A collection of reports to be delivered has been published prior to the conference.
The conference is organized by the History Faculty of Masherov Vitebsk State University.
