MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus won 6-4, 6-2 against Jenny Lim of France in her opening qualifying match of the French Open, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face Zeynep Sonmez of Türkiye. Belarus’ Iryna Shymanovich is also set to kick off her Rolland Garros qualifying run on 20 May. She will open her campaign against Linda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic. Three wins are required to reach the main draw. Two Belarusians - Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka - have direct entry into the main draw, which starts on 26 May and finishes on 9 June.
The 2024 French Open prize money is €53.5 million which is an all-time high. Winners in the men’s and women’s events will earn €2.4 million each.
